Bringing History to Life, and Life to History!

Your child will revel in a week of events and adventure through Arts & Armor. We provide a mix of active play and historical accuracy that has kept previous participants coming back for more!

Content includes investigation of the Roman military, Germanic warriors, warriors of the Asian Steppes, with a healthy dose of Medieval Knights. Children enjoy making period-accurate (no horns!) helmets and shields, re-enacting key battle tactics and learn to use a sling and javelin. In addition, ancient weapons and armor from the Oakeshott Institute are available to study and handle, giving children the unique experience of connecting directly with artifacts unavailable elsewhere.

Every day will include instruction by lecturers steeped in Medieval history, referencing primary source documents. This content is balanced with regular doses of energetic games and simulations led by professional educators and coaches.

"At what age should kids study the Middle Ages?"

Children's books are filled with stories about knights, castles, and dragons. These tales, along with popular movies like "Lord of the Rings", captivate a child's imagination and open the door to a wonderful world of history.

At Knight for a Day Camp, our curriculum, designed for kids ages 7 to 14, utilizes this natural curiosity to teach about the lives and culture of people in the past, using fun, hands-on activities. Campers learn about the chivalrous codes of noble knights, the challenges of being a Viking or ancient warrior. They will experience daily hands on activities and explore the culture, art and ethos of these historical cultures.

For older students, we highly recommend the Medieval Minnesota residential camp run by The Medieval Studies Program at Augsburg College. This program is designed especially for high school students, ages 14 to 17. You can find out more about the camp at: Medieval Minnesota Camp
